Welcome to the GLBA of British Columbia's website. Our organization has been instrumental in the creation of a nation-wide organization of gay, lesbian, transgendered, bisexual and allied business organizations across Canada. We are proud to be one of the founding members of this national group and proud that our name at last reflects the geographic diversity of our membership. As founding members of a robust national organization, our members will have opportunities to partner with national and multi-national corporations who not only want to market to us, but to demonstrate their commitment to diversity. These companies have placed diversity at the forefront in their corporate missions, and are working towards not just tolerance but total acceptance of our communities. These corporations are also committed to making their workplaces safe for our community. At the last National Day Against Homophobia celebration in Vancouver, there were wonderful stories of acceptance by some really dynamic organizations. Our goal is to render the need for this celebration, a thing of the past locally, and nationally. The GLBA of British Columbia has formed a Foundation; the focus of which will be philanthropic support for disenfranchised queer youth and seniors. As all successful and responsible businesses should give back to the community, so should their member organization. The Board has agreed to create a scholarship program for community members who do not have the means and resources for education. Also in the plans is a program to support our elders. Both media and members have told us that older community members are being forced back into the closet when they seek the services of long term care facilities and care providers. After so many years of struggle, it is imperative to maintain dignity and honor in our later years. There are many great opportunities for our members to help us grow the organization.
